What major is better overall, Accounting or Business Adminstration? What is the better major: Accounting, Business Administration or Business Management, Business Economics? I know it all depends on what field you like, but by salary.
What accounting software do you use for your small business? I currently use Microsoft Access for my small business accounting, which has worked well because of my size and budget. However, Access is not very user-friendly! I've heard good things of Quickbooks, but would like to keep my options open. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Do you prefer Quickbooks, Microsoft or another small business accounting software? Why or why not? I am starting a small business. I need software to invoice and track payments, track income and expense and basically keep everything organized for tax time. I've read positive and negative on all small business accounting software, so now I'm really confused. Oh, my business is a service one, so I will be invoicing for hours not items, if that makes any difference. Can you please give me some advice?
How much should an accounting business charge in annual accounting/tax prep fees? I'm doing a little research on accounting & consulting fees. I work for a nationwide niche firm that has about 1,500 accounting clients (including tax prep) averaging about 700-800K per year in operating revenue. I believe we are undercharging for our services. Our average accounting fees are about 1% of revenue or 7-8K per year on an average client. We do perform some other services like collections, payroll, financial planning, etc. on some clients raising the total amount to 1.2-1.3%. Do those seem like appropriate percentages? I'm curious what type of benchmarks others have in their accounting and tax businesses or if anyone knows of a good source of information for this type of thing. Any input would be much appreciated as I am looking to possibly buy this business in the future.

My dad wants to start a small business. What accounting/bookkeeping software would be appropriate? As my dad's not overly astute in the financial management side of things, I agreed that I would help him out in that respect. I'm a year 11 Accounting student so we've covered most of small business bookkeeping. I'm just wondering which accounting method would be most appropriate (and which software). The business I only likely (at present) to consist wholly of himself (service business). I would probably be listed as an employee in these circumstances though.

I wrote a few personal checks for the business and a few months later started taking back. Can someone tell me the correct way to note this on QuickBooks? * I have signed a loan agreement and the business is also paying me interest (lower than what the bank would charge) which I WILL report on my personal taxes.

I've tried google and the likes but it keeps spitting out university degrees - I'm not interested in gaining a degree, just basic knowledge I can use for my own personal use. Can anyone recommend a course that runs in the Sydney CBD (or close by) area? Thanks!
Should I stick with accounting or go into a bachelors degree for business administration? I just finished my associates degree in accounting at a community college. I know I want to go on and get my bachelors and then my masters as well. However, I am thinking that I would rather do a bachelors program for business administration instead of staying with accounting. Would the business degree combined with the associates in accounting make me more marketable rather than if I stuck with accounting?

Should I get a degree in Business Administration or Accounting? I am thinking of switching from a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology to something else due to the saturation of the IT market. My research indicates that Accounting is one of THE most available jobs and is also one of the highest paying non technichal degrees, much higher than Business Admin. My ultimate goal is to start my own business, any business. With a degree in accounting I could go on and get my MBA in accounting so that I can take the CPA exam in my state and start my own business. I could also get a Business Admin degree in undergrad and then an MBA in accounting and still qualify to take the CPA exam in my state and hence, still go into business for myself. It is a tough decision to make though. The BA degree looks easier and is very versatile, not to mention very popular at my school. The down side is that most jobs would benefit from a BA degree don't really require one if you have experience. Also, BA majors tend to make about 7 K less. Michelle, I feel ya girl when it comes to the hiring decision and the job going to someone with a degree rather than someone that has none, but I can tell you from MY experience that I have SEVERAL times beat out people with AA, AAS or BA/BS degrees for jobs when I had NO degree at the time. Why? I had the skills they where looking for... Just food for thought. You still make a very valid point though.
